Poet, Les Wicks has commented about Water over Stone, Throughout this book there’s a tactile empathy, the joy of loss, hands in the soil and the reckless flight of salt into matzo-ball soup. Beasts and feasts, heart in dialogue with mind. This is a rich empathic exploration across five generations and a lifetime of lives. Shore paints her portraits with style and vitality.

Write Your Own Family Portrait Poems

Poetry is available to all  of us and it can save the dreamer in us all. —Erica Jong

Heal your past, expand your compassion, deepen your understanding through finding new perspectives on the family, your ancestors, your loved ones, your children. Metaphor, the magic of poetic consciousness reshapes our mindset.  Making connections between early patterns, generational stories, attitudes and grief, the poem arises to open us to possibilities and change. The poem can be an honouring, an offering, a gift.

If you don’t know the kind of person I am

and I don’t know the kind of person you are

a pattern that others made may prevail in the world

and following the wrong god home we may miss our star.—William Stafford

Join me in a committed writing group to explore the family dynamic through reading and writing poetry.

About Laura’s classes

I leave her workshops totally uplifted, inspired and excited by what I have achieved under her magical tutelage. Pam Smith

I always come away from Laura’s workshops inspired to write and I do. Her teaching reaches into my heart and helps me express what I need to say.…a very special teacher. Bev Sweeney

There’s something very inspiring about the gentle way that Laura teaches, informs, plays and has fun with language. A depth and breadth of scope and vision that is both simple and contemplative.— Paul C. Pritchard, poet and creative writing teacher

Laura’s passion for poetry goes beyond workshops to create a poetry family, a tribe who inspire and refine each other’s work.  She has an unfailing variety of ways to mine the poetic seam and get words onto the page – if she’s teaching, I’m there…
